Description On most pinewood derby wheels, the wheel bore (the hole that the axle goes through) has loose bits of plastic, pits, and ridges. Although most of this cannot be seen without magnification, it will diminish from car performance. To make your wheels spin the fastest, our wheel bore polish will polish your wheel bores to a high shine. Pinewood Derby Wheel Bore Polish Instructions Preparation Fasten a hand drill to a work surface using a Drill Mount, clamp, or vise. Do not use a Dremel-type tool as the RPM is too high. Cut a piece of pipe cleaner 1-1/4 inch long. Slide the pipe cleaner into the drill chuck, and tighten the chuck. Caution Some polish may be thrown while the drill is running, so wear eye protection, old clothes, and cover any sensitive equipment on either side of the pipe cleaner. Polishing Apply a small amount of polish to the pipe cleaner. Spread the polish onto the entire pipe cleaner surface. Slide a wheel onto the pipe cleaner. Hold the wheel and start the drill on a slow to medium speed. Move the wheel back and forth on the tool for 5 to 10 seconds. Stop the drill and remove the wheel. Repeat steps for the other wheels. Clean-Up Wash the wheels in water, using a clean portion of the pipe cleaner to scrub inside the bore. Dry the wheels – Either air dry, or use a blow dryer to speed up the process.
